Traffic Rules
You must follow Japanese traffic rules when you drive in Japan. Follow the traffic rules and enjoy your travel.
Drive on Left Side
Japan is one of the few countries where drive on the left side of the road. You must drive in the left side and never drive in the opposite direction.
Red means Stop
You must stop while the red light is on. You can only proceed in the direction of the green arrow.
Speed Limit
You must always observe the speed limit. The legal speed limit is 60 km/h on ordinary roads and 100 km/h on highways.
Seat Belt
All people must wear seat belts while driving in the car.
Child Seat
Children under 6 years old must be seated in a child safety seat.
No Drunk Driving
Driving under the influence of alcohol is strictly prohibited by law.
No Cellphone
Use of cellphone while driving is prohibited by law.
Stop Sign
This red sign means "Stop". You must stop at the "Stop" sign and look both ways carefully.
Railroad Crossing
You must stop the car just before crossing a railroad, and make sure there is no train coming.
